[Shrike knows exactly what's going on with Lisbeth's comm. Well, she knows why it looks like someone has been tampering with it, at least, but already Lisbeth has been smart enough to set up protections on things that matter and she just--

What had she spit at Niall a few weeks ago? It's about efficiency. Jesse can give Lisbeth any gift he wants, make her as strong as he wants, and Lisbeth is obviously the superior choice, isn't she? He can fuck her and hold her and treat her like an adult, knows her from before when he's only known Shrike a month, and all she can hear is you're going to lose Jesse in Loki's quiet, sure voice.

Efficiency. Why keep brittle, angry little Shrike, when you could have a Lisbeth? When you have a Jane too and no time for a stupid dying teenager? Why bother with her when she'll be gone so soon anyway? Stupid to get invested. Stupid to care. Shrike notices how little she's heard from him lately and yeah, she thinks she understands what this is, tastes abandonment like almond skins the same flavour as cyanide, and while she tells herself she understands it still hurts like a burn infecting all over her skin.

Fucking Lisbeth and her fucking brilliance and her fucking computer and her fucking replacing Shrike and every reason she's been almost constantly drunk when she's not at work--and for the first time in her life she's been drunk at work too, carelessly, and thanks to that she has what may be a second degree burn on her left arm.
