Got two things to ask and one thing to offer. I'll try to make it short and sweet.

QUESTION 1: What destroyed or depopulated your version of Earth? Nukes, asteroids, zombies? If nothing did yet, what took the closest shot so far?

Same question if you're not from Earth - just swap out Earth for wherever you came from.

I'm not compiling a spreadsheet or anything. I guess it's just something I've wondered.

QUESTION 2: What are we even doing here? What's our destination? The purpose of the voyage? Who sent us, and why us? Maybe I missed something and by all means point me there if I did, but in less than a day, this ship sucks up more resources than the Ark could spare for a month.

I've been here for over a month now and I'm the first person I've seen ask anything like this so far. I want to think it's because we were up to our airholes in highly invasive nanotechnology. Or - like I said, maybe I missed the big 'who, what, where, and why' memo.

OFFER: I'm bored off my rocks, if you haven't picked up on that yet. I was a zero-G mech back on the Ark, and if that's not enough, I helped fix the thing that saved your asses pre-Jump. I can repair, rebuild, or build from scrap just about anything you can think of. So somebody give me a job before I start opening panels and improving whatever the hell's inside.

[ is she serious? she very well could be, so throw her a bone here, yeah? ]

[The video that appears is not of Ianto at first, but of this thing.]

We've found a piece of equipment in the medbay that might -- might -- be able to extract the nanites if we can get it working.

[The communicator swings around to show Ianto looking grim.]

If anyone still capable of moving without growing new limbs knows how to repair this thing, we need you down here yesterday.

Hello, Tranquility. This is Doctor Knutson, co-head of Xenobiology and Genetics. I understand this illness has escalated at an alarming rate, and that many of us are experiencing symptoms far beyond what one expects from a strain of influenza.

Specifically, many of us are mutating.

[ If she sounds a little concerned about that, it could be because it's very concerning, and the proper weight needs to be given to the subject. What she doesn't sound is alarmed. Then again, this post is noticeably lacking a visual. ]

It would greatly help the department if we had a better idea of what sort of mutations the ship's population is experiencing. If you would be so kind, please either respond to this message, or stop by the XenoGen laboratories or Medical. Species and the nature of your affliction will be very helpful information. Your condition will be kept confidential, should you choose to respond to me, or one of my staff, in private. Anonymous replies are accepted, though not encouraged.

Please seek out Medical, myself, Professor Xavier, or Doctor Grimm regarding this. Thank you for your time and cooperation.

[Ianto could make a big announcement, Petrelli-style. He could talk about the last time people started getting sick (though he's fairly certain this isn't stasis sickness all over again), or how everyone should band together to help each other and keep an eye on each other. He could propose that people voluntarily go to the medbay to get their blood tested, or ask people to compare symptoms and severity.

As if anyone has the bloody energy for all that.]

Is there anyone who isn't sick?

[Johanna flicks on the video with a glare. The room around her is dark; the screen lights her face from below. When she speaks, her voice is a little rough and hoarse, like she's been shouting a lot, very recently. (She has.)]

Hi, friends. [She bites out the word.] Just a little message for you all. You've all gotten really comfortable on this hunk of junk you're calling a ship--or what's passing as a ship-- [And she manages a little smirk at that--] --which, come on, it's crap. But I get it, it's not yours. You're all just prisoners here, it did some horrible things to you... yeah.

And that's where this comes in.

[She holds up her arm, where her tattoo is clearly stamped out, fresh and new.]

See this thing? This isn't a fashion accessory. This is bullshit. The last time someone shoved something in my arm and told me to smile and get on with my life, I didn't put up with it. I'm getting this thing out of myself, and if any of you have any sense--you'll do the same. You wonder how they get to you? It's things like this. But I'll bet you already knew that.

Well, fuck that. Fuck all of it. I'm not doing that again.

You want us to join up and help you run this ship? --Or resist this ship, or fight whatever you think is here? Here's my offer. First person that tells me how to get this thing out of my arm without dying, I'll join whatever they're running. And you want me on your side.

[JOHANNA OUT.]

[Ianto looks fairly uncomfortable when he comes on screen. He hasn't addressed the network in a long time, and there are still people who aren't on great terms with him after the fiasco on Arima. Still, this needs to be said.]

Some of you know me, some of you don't. My name is Ianto Jones, and I've been here since the first jump. Back in the beginning, there was a whole group of us who were very seriously dedicated to unlocking the mystery of this place, and I think it's fair to say that we came a good distance. Most of the others are gone now, but we put together a guide that I kept updated for a long time after the organization was disbanded. After a while, though... Well, I suppose like I felt people weren't reading it any more. But we've lost quite a few of the old hats and gained a lot of new faces, and what used to be fairly common knowledge has been lost.

I've been convinced to revive the guide, but in the meantime, one of the things many of you may be unaware of is the subnetwork, buried directly beneath the one we're using here, and how it's been used before. Smiley, the entity you saw leave us that passage before the rescue mission, has given us nuggets of information on that subnetwork before. He left us another one, and we cracked it just a few minutes ago.

The contents of the message are as follows:

Another Jump has come and gone.

[ hey, Tranquility. Lucrezia Borgia's hair falls freely down her back today and her cheeks are rosy and her lips are smiling. though if you know Lucrezia Borgia, and many do by now, you would perhaps recognize something in her smile, a twinkle in her eye which is impish. ]

I have counted more than twelve jumps, near fifteen and my days on this ship had been many yet today I come to you with a plea, Tranquility.

[ notice the faux!serious expression on her face. ]

There is a man upon this ship who had promised me a most wonderful promise many months ago and failed to see it through. I do not know if it is a regular affair in this person's world to break a promise made to a lady but I have come before you seeking justice from him so he would see it done. Duel him, pester him, chase him down at my name, if you wish it. Only bring him before me or tell him to present himself to me and be given punishment for said offense.

His name is Sirius Black. He is taller than me with dark hair and mischievous eyes and a talent in magic and he had given me his word that he will hold a Christmas upon this vessel. I do not know the months but surely not celebrating it at all is worse than trying to. My Holy Father would say the attempt is as important as the result. I trusted Sirius Black with such and here I am, months afterwards and nearly married -

[ allow her to look very pleased for a moment ]

And not a Christmas in sight. That said, I call upon my friends to deliver him to me so we may settle this matter once and for all.

[ instead of speaking right away (partially because while the buttons are clearly labelled, she'd had some trouble figuring out this device), elizabeth strikes a soft tune on her viola. while she can't afford to express her emotions, music has always been a good outlet for them.

she plays on for a little, and then sets aside her instrument with a soft thud so that she might speak. ]

So, this is supposedly a.. ship? It feels more akin to a prison than any ship I have ever seen.

[ those are made of wood. and you can disembark them! what a concept. ]

I should like to know more information about it, if anyone might be so kind as to indulge me.

[ there is one subject in particular which is of concern to her: ]

So far as I know, it is the year of Our Lord 1483. But I have heard this might not be so. Are such occurrences commonplace?

Ship - Tranquility - I have a bit of a crisis-

So I need everyone to stop a moment and think very hard, and I mean incredibly hard, about this, because forget the bloody temperature and the mess with all that and everything else because, well.

...I've run out of tea.

Proper tea, not the space tea that tastes like the stuff you get from the blank boxes that they sell at the Co-op. Or worse, the off-stuff from Tescos.

Does anyone have real tea?

[When Jack appears in front of the camera, he's all charm and charisma. These shared memory events haven't dampened his spirits too much. Even if the cat's definitely out of the bag to a few more of his fellow passengers than he would like, as far as his mortality is concerned. He sits forward, arms crossed in front of him, eyes focused on the camera, and he smiles, but there's a hard glint to it. Something's on his mind.]

Some of us are new here. Some of us have been here a long time. [He raises his arm and the number SEC-001-003 can be seen, for a brief moment.] Some of us have seen manticores and shadow people, malfunctioning space stations, black holes, space pirates, space sickness, mazes and never-ending corridors, hive-mind space colonists who tried to make us assimilate. We've been put on lists, given god knows how many riddles by Smiley, and don't even get me started on those masks. And then most recently the shared memories and the dreams. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the only non-horrible stop we ever made was the first, way the hell back at the Tansei station.

[He leans forward, his grin becoming more grim, his eyes more intent on the camera as he continues:] So we've got another jump coming up. Anybody wanna hazard a guess what's coming next? Welcoming all thoughts, theories, dreams, or desires, seeing as we really haven't got a clue, unless you know something I don't.

[Look who looks a lot better after his recent illness - Ianto Jones, that's who.]

Hi, everyone. Sorry for my recent absence. Thankfully it was just a normal flu, not a creepy space flu. I'm feeling much better now.

[The happy announcement comes out lacking enthusiasm. Wetting his lips, he pauses briefly, thoughtful.]

But that's not what I really came on here to say. I came to say that Nathan Petrelli wasn't wrong. We're not going to get anywhere by searching deeper into the ship; I think Smiley made clear that what we're supposed to be working toward isn't a physical destination. He was saying we need to finally solve the mystery of what we're all doing here, and he claims he's given us all the information we require to do so.

Whether you think Smiley is a friend or a threat, I don't see any other choice. Either we solve this thing and figure out what's happening here, or we sit around and wait for whatever end greets us. And I don't think any of us are happy to be that complacent.

I've been in the process of gathering as much information as I can - you all know that. I started out doing it with Cambitas and the info posts, but I've also been keeping track of other things. Things Smiley has said, things people have experienced and seen in dreams and the visions we've all been sharing. I've been coming up with some theories, too. But I can't do it alone.

Some of you are privy to information I don't have. You've spoken to Smiley privately, or seen things you haven't talked about publicly. And even if you haven't, I'm still only one person. The amount of information we all have individually, compiled, is overwhelming.

Cambitas was supposed to be a safe place to share information, anonymously or otherwise, and I'd like to start doing that again. We know now that Smiley and Ward can see even the most encrypted conversations, and that's something I can't help. But you can remain anonymous from your fellow passengers, if it makes you more comfortable. All I'm asking is that you share. Things you know, your theories, things you think you know, however uncomfortable. Send them to me, share them publicly, however you please.

Let's see if Smiley is right. Let's see what conclusions we can reach if we all work together.

Sorry this is both late and... not updated. For the new arrivals, the situation last month involved a solid month of being unable to get more than an hour or two of sleep at a time, so I very selfishly took the opportunity to sleep the entire day away after the jump.

Now that I'm caught up on blissful, wonderful rest, I'll update the timeline and add a couple new sections as soon as I can.

HELLO

[You know how sometimes, when you go for a really long time without sleep, you write things that seem really profound? Things that seem like really marvelously good ideas?

If not, see below.]

It has been some time since I engaged in any data collection: please fill out the following survey so that more data might be collected.

Name:
Age:
Sex:
Occupation:
Level of education:
Place of origin:
Annual income:
Ethnicity:
Length of time you've been here:
Last time at which you slept:
Do you think we ought to have a system of law in place?:
If not, would you have objections to being provided with an informational pamphlet as to how laws are put in place to protect individuals from the state & not necessarily vice versa?:
If not, do you not see that as perpetuating your own preconceived notions?:
Why do you think we are here?:
Why do you think we are currently unable to sleep?:
How many "incidents" have you been caught up in (e.g., Strela, when we lost power, getting stuck in the hallways):
How did you comport yourself at that time?:
Would you like to
Are you currently experiencing adverse physical effects?:

This survey will be analyzed, using statistics & science.

Thank you.

With regards,
M. Edgeworth

[Right, okay. She can do this. It's just a piece of technology and Jenny's good with that. The video clicks on to show a young woman with bright blond hair pulled into a ponytail and a plain olive green shirt. This particular girl is standing near a window in the shuttle bay. When she speaks it's with a decidedly British accent - for those that even know what that means.]

Hello, I'm Jenny. [She gives everyone a smile before turning her attention to more serious matters.]

This isn't exactly what I had in mind when I set out to explore the universe. If I'd wanted to be stuck somewhere I would have stayed on Messaline. Out of the tunnels and into the hallways isn't much of a change. What do you people do here for fun besides get creepy things in your locker?

Does anyone know if people's ships show up here? I don't exactly know what happened to my escape shuttle so if it turns up let me know. I'd like it back, it's something I borrowed. [Borrowed she says with a bit of amusement. Who knows when she'll get the chance to return it.]

Seems my dad might've been here at one point. [Not that Jenny recognized the face to go with the name. Technically it isn't really even a name.] Can't say I'm surprised, he does travel a lot. So if any of you know the Doctor, I'd like to meet you.

[Okay, now she's done.]

Right, thanks.

Good morning, children! Did you have a nice jump? No, me either. Anyone else feel like they were being watched this time, or I am being especially paranoid?

Here's your regular information dissemination. New arrivals should find it especially informative, though there are a few of you who've been here much too long without reading this.

To any new arrivals, feel free to ask any questions.

[ for optimal viewing pleasure, please see the following and allow to run in the background as you enjoy this recording. though the only thing currently in the feed is an angled shot of the treetops in the gardens, this is not an accidental video. there's rustling in the background, like something's moving fast through the leaves coming closer, and it is moving.

a couple seconds later, myfanwy comes flying overhead, a small black shape on her back. it might not be terribly difficult to discern what it is, but don't worry if you miss it, because the pteranodon makes a screech and a sharp turn, sending the shape tumbling off her back towards the device.

river rolls over the feed when she hits the ground, dressed in her tq crew uniform with the legs cut into shorts, hair tied up in a messy bun and hands covered with fingerless black gloves that hardly fit her at all. sky-diving experts or anyone with military training might notice her roll is perfectly controlled to minimise damage, and when she comes back into view, her eyes are wide with adrenaline but she doesn't seem particularly bothered by her fall. ]

Test five. Flight successful. Notes: need to meet higher altitude, consider construction of a harness; ask permission first. No hard turns.
